avadski Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) Hi fellas, what do you think of this one? There are some 'things' I don't like about it e.g. poor quality of avers center or 'worn-out' gold plating but i'm sure there are more experienced experts here than myself...Thanks for feedback in advance. Emanuel Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 This is an original piece my friend,Back is just worn, nothing else than that. Best regardsEmanuel
medalnet Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) I believe the 1st class crosses have to have a real golden center for the most part. Edited July 16, 2009 by medalnet
Guest Rick Research Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 That has arisen over and over again without documentation. If some did, most don't. Von Hessenthal and Schreiber make no mention of any such thing.
medalnet Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Well, as mentioned, before, there will eventually be a book about this topic, answering all questions. I would personally not buy any 1st class crosses without real golden center. The bavarians were very peculiar about the way order decorations were produced. Keep in mind it always was and still is the wealthiest state within Germany ; )
avadski Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Guys, thanks for your thoughts so far.Medalnet...could you please post some pictures of MVK1 with golden center? I have never seen one...
Bernd D Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 This MVK is ok. It is an MVK with silver gilt center. Everything is fine.
Wild Card Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Gentlemen,While we are on the subject... Here is a similar cross which I got recently that I would like to offer for your evaluation. Don?t hold back.
Wild Card Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Not being aware of all of the intricacies of this order and still awaiting for the absolutely definitive study (Medalnet) on the subject I would like to turn to your collective knowledge.
Wild Card Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I can not find any marks on the cross, but here is a raised ?GH? on one of the swords.
medalnet Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Wild Card, that is the one I am talking about....real gold center! Those are rather easy to evaluate. The other one is good, too, by the way. Bernd D, already said it.
saschaw Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Wow, two real MVK1X in one thread, without the usual "less nice" ones that are virtually everywere. Thanks guys!
avadski Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 A new one out there, not so neat as those previously discussed but still worth looking...

avadski Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Gold plating is vanishing from sword handles...
