Hinrik Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Hi guys,Here are some photos of an EKI that I recently got from Thomas Wittmann. Some guys on the www.germandaggers.com forum did not like it, some did. What is your opinion? I have found out that there was a Stefan Richter in the SS and am trying to get his files.Hinrik
Hinrik Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Engraved on back in very small script:"Meine ehre heisst treue" "Stefan Richter""17.9.42."
Hinrik Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 I read somewhere that the "L/54" makers mark should be below the catch. Is this true?
Hinrik Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Needle. Sorry for poor quality of photo, I will have to take better once when back home next time.
Dietrich Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 (edited) Hi Hinrik, the cross you show is not a L/54, i.e. it does not exhibit the typical beading/date characteristics of a genuine Schauerte und Hoehfeld. This should also answer your questions regarding the inscription...Dietrich Edited December 3, 2005 by Dietrich
Guest Rick Research Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 The inscription also makes no sense. It would be like engraving "Heil Hitler" or "Alles f?r Deutschland" on there--nothing that would MEAN anything as to when or where it was supposed to have been awarded, or that would enable it to be returned if lost to a living wearer or to identify a dead one. I hope you can return it.
Hinrik Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Brian....Why do you say "yikes Wittann" ? He is positve its real..but then again I was the one paying $750 for this EKI.................RegardsHinrik
Dietrich Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Hinrik, this is not a genuine L/54 and for sure it's not worth the amount you mentioned. I'm sorry, but that is a fact.Dietrich
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 People take his words as gospel, so "yikes Wittmann" is just another, "oh boy". He's quick to call anyone else's daggers are "parts" pieces and get people to buy from him rather than the "parts" dagger. He's disingenuous at best. Now you see this junk and it only reinforces the feeling.
Richard Gordon Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 HinrikSorry to see that your pride and joy is a modern reproduction. This is also a prime case that shows there still are engravers out there that can still produce superb engraving. Beware everyone!Rich
TerryG Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Here's a photo taken from Detlev's site for comparison. The L/54 is indeed under the catch for a start..
Bob Hunter Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Save yourself some grief and send it back. Tom Wittmann will make it right. Medals and badges aren't really his field of expertise.
Hinrik Posted December 4, 2005 Author Posted December 4, 2005 Thanks guys,I should of known better....I am contacting TW to send this back. Will get a nice dagger insted, I hope.RegardsHinrik
Stogieman Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Always a disappointment when that special "object" proves to be something other than what we thought.... Again, the old adage.. "Know what you're buying" comes to play.
Ralph A Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 That "hanging 9" at the end usually gives these away.
