Richard Gordon Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Hey all, I picked up this delicious EK1 marked 800 on the pin recently. It has amazing patina...looks like it was never cleaned. The core is in excellent condition with just a little wear to the highlights. My question though is this an unmarked Godet? I was thinking it was from the distinct pin shape especially near the hinge? Rich
Richard Gordon Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Apologies that the first pic is a little fuzzy.
Richard Gordon Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Last one! So was my hunch right.... is this a Godet? Rich
Kriztofer Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 It looks exactly like my Godet more or less, so it must be. Nice cross.
Glenn R Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Yes, I'd say Godet. Pin shape and core details look right to me. Very pretty!
Richard Gordon Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 Guys Thanks for your replies and for confirming my hunch. This was a nice buy-it-now that I just couldn't refuse as until now I didn't have a Godet in my collection. Rich
Glenn R Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 In my opinion, certain cross manufacturers become the "must have" cross but when you see one in the flesh you wonder why. Not so with Godet silver crosses. Absolute quality. I love them. That looks like a real keeper Rich, nice purchase.
Kriztofer Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Yeah, nice pick up Rich. It's nice when you get a surprise. I wonder though why some manufacturers didn't stamp their pieces? Maybe it was the stamp guy's day off or they forgot where they put the punch or perhaps some just got missed on the assembly line. Whatever the reason it just adds to the mystique of these Imperial awards. Chris
Richard Gordon Posted August 1, 2009 Author Posted August 1, 2009 Guys Thanks again. Yes this one is a keeper (but then aren't they all ) Rich
gregM Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 All Godet 1819 Ek1 have a unique pattern in their frame beading at the inner corners. Once you know what to look for, it's an easy way to spot one and distinguish it from a Meybauer which can look very much Godetish. Interesting-this pattern does not match Godet 2nd class crosses.
buellmeister Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Absolutely stunning Cross! The patina is breathtaking.. Thank you for posting it! Regards, Joel
Richard Gordon Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Greg/Joel Thanks for adding to the thread. I didn't realise there had been more posts until today! Cheers Rich
