Eric Stahlhut Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) i seem to be having some luck with free buckles lately! i was home from work, and my neighbor gave me this...it's in virtually brand new condition. Edited November 4, 2009 by Eric Stahlhut
Eric Stahlhut Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 funny thing is, i don't even collect buckles nor 3rd reich. this one is aluminum and extremely light weight. a beauty!!
Brian Wolfe Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Very nice indeed, it looks like the day it was made! You're quick lucky to have such a neighbour. Regards Brian
Eric Stahlhut Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 yup, i was raking leaves in the yard and the neighbor came over and handed it to me. his father participated in the normandy invasion, the battle of the bulge, other places, and was posted in berlin after the war. there are other things as well, but i advised him to keep all of the records, paperwork, photographs, etc. together and in the family.
Guest Rick Research Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 I tried this today but it didn't work. I raked and raked and raked. Then I mowed the grass because it is going to snow AGAIN tonight. Nuthin. Must be a Left Coast thang. PS I am incredibly cute. And blond. Nuthin. :banger:
Eric Stahlhut Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 i had a quick peek at the rest of the stuff--pretty cool! there were service records, letters, documents, pics, accounts of d-day, guy (a radioman) calling in air support at the very beginning of the battle of the bulge, etc. etc.. overall a large and detailed amount of paper, passbooks, i.d.'s. and more... swords, armbands, and a few holstered pistols as well. my neighbor is going to be gone for two months and he asked me to keep an eye on his place and water his plants, grab his mail and pay utility bills, so i suppose the buckle was a kind of payment.
FrontlineAntiques Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Great buckle! It looks as though it was made yesterday! Congrats! Dan
lach470 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 That truly is a minty example. Here's mine for the sake of reference....Unfortunately - I wasn't given my example! Lucky guy! Rob

all1knew Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hello all, I have found these mint buckles more than once and they're typically RAD; they must have found stockpiles after the war or perhaps the salesman never sold their display examples. William Kramer
lach470 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 That's a great example you have shown! Any pics of the back of the buckle? I agree that there are quite a few nice, minty examples out there. I'm sure it was a question of there being large numbers of unissued pieces gathered up after the war. Rob
all1knew Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Hello again, Not the nicest I've had either but marked for BSW. William Kramer
lach470 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Thanks for posting the extra pic....that's a cracker of a buckle! Looks great! Rob
