Chris Boonzaier Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I thought this was an interesting symbolic pic... the finely dressed cavalry guy in the background while the Kaiser watches the assault troops march past...
Hauptmann Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hi Chris, Great pic! And actually I believe that is one of the Kaiser's personal guards. I have a pic of it in one of my uniform refs. I'll see if I can dig it out and do a scan and post if you'd like. Dan
Mike Dwyer Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I believe the officer directly in front of the Kaiser's standard bearer is Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria.
Ulsterman Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Yeah-the "cavalry" guards with the imperial standard show up in lots of photos. There are usually at least two, but sometimes as many as 5.
Les Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 The dude with the standard is one of the few, the proud, the Leib Gendarmerie. They aren't actually cavalry and were never meant to be field units.
Thomas W Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Even more anachronistic: The same standard bearers walking behind the Kaiser and von Hutier as they review submachine gunners armed with the MP18/1.
Chip Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 The two Züge of the Leibgendarmerie were never wore field gray. Chip
