Signalcorps45 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hello to everyone I am looking for comments on whether this medal is authentic Any information would be helpful Dean
Alfred Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Looks like a casted fake to me. Look at the letter H reverse in the word "HAWY". The letter H is much weaker than the other letters and no signs of wear. The weak H is a cast problem, you can see it on a lot of copy´s. The soldered ring looks bad.The rim of the medal looks sharp and uneven. It´s one of the lower quality fakes. To judge this high end medals and to give a consistently answer you need at least this quality of pics to recognize a good fake. best regards Andreas Edited January 22, 2010 by Alfred
Signalcorps45 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Andreas and Komandir RKKA, Thank you both for your help. It was pointed out to me that the "H" might be a indication of a fake. Thanks for the confirmation. Dean
Guest Darrell Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Dean, the Odessa and Sevastopol Medals are DANGEROUS medals (heavily faked and expensive). Best to get an expert opinion on these before buying. This is mine (bought a while back from Alexei aka Note Bene). Edited January 22, 2010 by Darrell
Signalcorps45 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Darrell and Komandir RKKA, I bought these a few years ago. The other medals I posted were from the same place, which most of them were authentic. Of course, the rare ones of the bunch were fakes. Now that I am part of this forum, I will always seek the advice of the members here before making a purchase. Thanks again for your help. Dean
