Sorry for the silly question, yet I have not been able to find a copy of Angolia's yet. As a result, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with.

I received this set of tabs with a lot of other LW items. As you can see, the tabs are definately mouse grey in color. Does Angolia or other reference list grey as a possible waffenfarbe. I know that this color represents propoganda troops in the Heer. I also remember someone informing me that the Luftwaffe took on some of the waffenfarbe to parallel with the Heer toward the end of the war...

    Please help! :jumping::cheers:

    Regards

    Paul,

I've never seen or heard of grey waffenfarbe used by the LW but I'll do some more checking. I don't know if Gene is on this forum yet but he turned up some odd LW waffenfarbes.

    Thanks Garth!

I seem to be a magnet for these oddities! First the supply/FP tabs(light blue), FP tabs(orange), and now these! None of these were listed in Davis' Books either. Who knows?! I hope that someone has some info to share :jumping:

    Thank you Laurence and John!

I have been looking in my references as well as on line with no benefit thus far.

Was there ever an enlisted reserve tab?

These tabs are well constructed and I cannot see anything wrong with them... except for the color. I have been in touch with a lot of well known dealers and Luftwaffe specialists. The general feeling is that they are real, yet the color has everyone confused.

    There are several theories:

    1. They are complete fakes... but why such a high end fake of something that never existed(other than to confuse the crap of us collectors). LOL

    2. It is well known that later in the war, the LW changed a lot of it's waffenfarbe to correspond with those of the Heer. Although I have not seen anything supporting this specific waffenfarbe, things are being discovered all the time. It is known that there were some changes very late in the war on things like badges that never made it past the drawing board/prototype stage. My theory is that this could be a late war waffenfarbe for Propaganda troops. The Luftwaffe did have a propaganda corps that wore the signals waffenfarbe. I was informed that the propaganda corps from the various branches of the military were placed in the direct control of berlin(I think Goebles in 1944). I am thinking that it would make sense that the waffenfarbe change could have occurred at that time.

    3. Reserve tabs. These would have been used for a very short amount of time prewar? Check out the waffenfarbe of this reservist board being offered on the Collector's Guild. http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Luftwaffe/photos/L02154.html

Again, any input or conversation on this possible waffenfarbe/tabs is encouraged!! Please bear in mind that the above are just theories.

Thank you all for your patience with this thread!!!

    Larry,

I like your weather service boards a lot!!! You have some great Luft Admin boards! The only issue is that the wearer of these boards would wear the dark green Admin tabs.

I am still awaiting the delivery of my Angolia Books. Maybe their contents could eliminate a some possiblities?

    Hi Larry.

I wish it were that easy... the Wetterdienst used Administrative tabs and the shoulder boards you used above... unless you know something I dont(and I hope you do :P )! :o

    GREAT NEWS...

Thanks to the eagle eyes of Garth Thompson, I received this PM today...

    "Paul,

I might have a possible ID for your gray EM tabs. I was watching a color film on the Polesti, Romania raid by the USAAC last night. They included some color footage of the Flack crews around the refinery and stated the guns were manned by Romanian troops. Pictured were troops in LW uniforms but they had GRAY collar tabs. There were two clear shots of the gun crews in both the crew had tabs that were not Flack red but appeared to be a gray color. Unlike the Army volunteers almost no reference has been done on foreign volunteers in the LW and their insignia....

    Just a thought,

    Garth"

I will contact the channel to ask for a DVD of the program.

    Thanks
