tyanacek Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Hello to all, I found this nice TR Police medal bar and Feldspange at the most recent SOS. These items came together as a grouping, but the six-place medal bar does not quite match the seven-place Feldspange. The Feldspange has the WWI Commemorative Medal for Austria on it but the medal bar does not. Best regards, Tom
Douglas Jr. Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Nice find! A great bar, for sure! I decided to start a Polizei display -an old project - and my first piece is a Polizei Medal bar, but not so great as yours! I have a (probably dumb) question: why the WWI Commemorative Medal for Austria is often seen right after the Hindenburg Cross as it was a foreign award? Just guessing: is it because after the Anschluss it "became" a German decoration? Thanks, Douglas.
tyanacek Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Thanks for the comments, Scott and Douglas. Douglas: Per 1940 regulations for the Armed Forces and Police, the order of precedence on both the medal bar and ribbon bar are completely correct. The WWI Commemorative Medal for Austria was ranked after the Honor Cross and before Long Service Decorations. As for the reasoning behind this, I think you are probably correct: after the Anschluss of 1938, Austria was now a part of Germany and therefore the medal was elevated in precedence and no longer considered a "foreign" decoration. Still, on some post-Anschluss assembled bars, the Commemorative Medal for Austria continued to be placed at the end of the bar with other foreign decorations. Best regards, Tom
Douglas Jr. Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Thanks for the explanation, Tom. As I said, a nice ber. I would have it my collection without hesitation. Greetings, Douglas
tyanacek Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Thanks to all for the comments. Police medal bars have always been one of my favorite things to collect. Best regards, Tom
Ulsterman Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 The Reaalllly cool thing about that set is the Luftschutz award. That is most unusual.
all1knew Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Hello there, While the ribbon bar is slightly fadded the mounted medals are in most excellent condition. Nice addition you have there. William Kramer

William Kramer Thanks to all for the comments. William: Yes! Quite typical to find more fading to a ribbon bar since they were worn much more than a medal bar. Best regards, Tom
