Beau Newman Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I was going through my storage safe the other day and came across this piece. I acquired it several years ago before cased pieces started bringing such a premium, mainly because I thought that the "extra" included was interesting. It is what appears to be an old spent soft lead bullet attached to a silk string. Perhaps the EK wasn't his only "souvenir" of France.
Brian Wolfe Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) A very interesting "extra". It sure makes one think. Regards Brian Edited April 1, 2010 by Brian Wolfe
Beau Newman Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) The case lid - I am unaware of any "standard" design for the 1870 EK cases and have always assumed that the cases were private purchase. Is anyone aware of anything to the contrary? Edited April 1, 2010 by Beau Newman
Christian J Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Here is mine case with glass lid. Sorry for the glance, the glass is clear in hand. Think they were private purchase just as their counterparts in der erste Weltkrieg.
Paul R Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Wow! Those are some wonderful pieces! I am definitely envious!

If you have a pal on the local police dept., ask them if they can put some luminal on the bullet. If there are any red blood cells on it, they should light up under a black light. Just a thought.
