Like Jim I have been after one of these Ubergrosse EKs for a few years now. I did have the opportunity to buy a nice example a few years ago but at the time I thought the guy was asking too much money for it.

When I compare the prices now

One query I have with the example shown is the suspension ring. I though the suspension rings on these awards were like standard EK2, that looks like an RK suspension ring ?

That is a very interesting cross. Was this converted during the war? If your friend is too terribly upset with it, I'll take it off his hands!!!

These were produced like standard EK's.

In the other thread I was inquiring about whether or not the owner knew if the conversion had been done war time. This COULD have been a replacement or wearing piece for the field.

Interesting piece either way. Dave, can you get a pic of the reverse, and possibly the suspension loop??

My mate has had the cross for about 20 years and he paid ?400 for it because he thought it was an RK.He wasn't best pleased when I told him it was an Ubergrosse.

Whether it was converted wartime or not.....who knows??

Ah yes I can see where it was converted now.

Well 20 years later and he will at least break even, as the going price for one of these crosses is at least ?400.

But a poor return when you consider how much ?400 20 years ago would be by todays standards.

Ah well it could have been worse it could have been a total repro

Just out of curiousity, what is a "fair" price for one of these now.

Or, is there even an average due to their scarcity?? I know where I can buy three. Two in Europe, and the Euro is killer right now, and one in the US, but he seems to be asking just as much.
