VtwinVince Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I have a spange with the EK2 1914, Hindenburg Cross with Swords, Prussian 15 Year Long Service Cross and a cross which I can't identify. It is on a blue ribbon, is a gold maltese cross with XXV on the obverse and a cypher with 'EV' surmounted by a crown on the reverse. I can't post images on this site, but hopefully someone will have an idea on this one.
Claudio Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 (edited) It's not German, but an Italian LS officers cross for 25 years. (croce per anzianità di servizio militare, croce d'oro per ufficiale, 25 anni). The ribbon is wrong (see attachment for the correct one). VE stands for Vittorio Emanuele (III), king of Italy. ciao, Claudio Edited September 18, 2010 by Claudio
HeikoGrusdat Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 No.....the ribbon is right - the cross is wrong This cross makes for shure no sense on this bar....
Kev in Deva Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I agree the cross has been added to the bar in lieu of a German / Prussian Service award. Beautiful Italian award though. Kevin in Deva.
VtwinVince Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Thanks gentlemen, your knowledge once again has proved invaluable. I thought it was from some obscure German duchy, but now of course the cypher makes perfect sense.
