Hauptmann Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can tell me it this one is good or bad? I suspect the ribbon is incorrect and probably the kolodka as well but more concerned about the medal itself. Many thanks in advance! Dan
Hauptmann Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 Many thanks! I suspected as much but I don't know a lot about Imperial Russian awards and have very few references that cover any. But that's just what I needed to know. Just for the benefit of others as well as myself what shows this to be a fake? That ways we'll have it for future reference. Dan
tsarenko1975 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 If you want, this one real - sorry, not from my collection
Claudius Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can tell me it this one is good or bad? I suspect the ribbon is incorrect and probably the kolodka as well but more concerned about the medal itself. Many thanks in advance! Dan Orginals of this medal are wonderfully made. The scene on the back is artistic, the lettering and St. George Cross on the front have sharp edges. IMO...I wish all fakes had this many "tells". It would make spotting them so much easier.
JapanX Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Orginals of this medal are wonderfully made. You said it! Check this out guys - full set: Medal + St. George Cross. Issued for Fedor Timofeevich Boryichyck, Seaman gunner 1st class aboard Cruiser Varyag.
JapanX Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 This set was sold in September for $130 000 ... And another example ;)
JapanX Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Some nice and interesing photos of Varyag. Brand new, shortly after launching in Philadelphia (it was build by William Cramp and Sons of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
