Paul R Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Any ideas on the number awarded? I have one of these too. It was a difficult one to find. Yours is a beauty.
speedytop Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Hi Paul, the regulations from 1978 say: "Es können jährlich 400 Medaillen verliehen werden" = every year 400 medals. But you must add the medals for the members of the "Kollektive". Uwe
Paul R Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 So they are not that rare then? I have not seen too many around.
Greg Collins Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) The logo/icon on the back is the Staatswappen, or State Seal, of the DDR. With regard to rarity: this is not a particularly high dollar medal, however you are quite right in that it isn't encountered that often. I would say that it is one of those fairly rare medals that is not particularly sought by collectors. In the East German category, the armed forces awards and, of course, MfS/Stasi awards seem to take center stage and, therefore, command higher prices. Edited February 5, 2011 by Greg Collins
