Vic Diehl
Quadaffi, has all of his personal presentation pieces on display in the Red Palace in Tripoli. As you would expect they are over the top in decoration. I hate to see another war, but If we have to go in there there are some important items to be brought home. 1. Bodies of 4 US sailors killed in battle at Tripoli in 1804, the mast from the USS Philidelphia, The wreckage of the "Lady Be Good" in Tobruk, of course all of our troops ! Paul R
They still have those sailor's bodies? Why?
Vic Diehl
I asked the same question. Our military Rrepresentative in Tripoli at the time did not have an answer. It is interesting that the Country of Italy cleaned out all of the military grave yards in Tripoli and took every Italian back to Italy and we leave 4 early American Patriots in Tripoli. The grave yard is not in good shape as it is very close to the Med. A US expat did take the responsibility to patch and paint the graves. Here is the grave yard. I have pictures of the graves if I can find them. Their graves are not named that I could find. The Mast of the USS Philadelphia is sitting on top of the Red Palace as a war souvenir. We must bring these boys home !!

Paul R
I hope that they can find a way to bring the sailors home as well. What year was the photo of the bomber taken? The wreck site looks well preserved.
Vic Diehl
http://www.panoramio.com/user/924521 Paul, here is my Google Earth site, you can see that the bomber has been moved to Tobruk and in terrible shape. Vic
Guest IMHF
That is a very beautiful Sword, I agree with bringing the Sailors home to give their families rest. North Korea let us go in and get our fallen soldiers from the Korean War a few years ago. Lorenzo

JimZ
I found this thread interesting particularly the "Lady be Good" story which I was not aware of. Particularly as I came across this soon after the aircraft crash in Libya (and the safe recovery of the crew). Thanks for posting this thread. Pity that the aircraft which was relatively intact has been just about scrapped in what was undoubtedly a primitive attempt at recovery!!! Shame :shame:
