Odulf Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) Hi Detlev, This medal and box were issued during the reign of Pius XI. PEeP Crosses that were issued during the reign of a Pope had the crest of that pope on the lid of the box, crosses issued during the Sede Vacante generaly carried the badge with two crossed keys. I made a mistake, Detlev, it is Pius X. For the sake of determination (and with thanks to Wikipedia) I will show all the crests of the popes between 1878 and 2012...: Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) Pope Pius X (1903-1914) Pope Benedict XV (1914-1922) Pope Pius XI (1922-1939) Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) Pope John XXIII (1958-1963) Pope Paul VI (1963-1978) Pope John/Paul I (1978) Pope John/Paul II (1978-2005) Pope Benedict XVI (2005 till present) Edited December 27, 2011 by Odulf
speedytop Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Interesting, to see different crests of one pope, Leo XIII. Uwe
Odulf Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Indeed Uwe, the basic crest is the same, the surrounding attributes are different... :)
speedytop Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Hi, Odulf: "... but I have never seen one in bronze" I just realized, that I have a Bronze version, in a box from Tanfani, crest of Pope Pius X.: Uwe
Ulsterman Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Outstanding thread! I have been culling the Papal monthly encyclical which here is still bound in the Bishops Palace and goes back to the 1870s. the Magazine details Papal awards and so far I have @ 450 German names up to 1910. From what I can see, fewer awards went to Germany than Ireland, so awards seem to have been rationed informally by Bishoprics, or even ArchBishoprics.

Is it possible to refine the recipient to a list of possibles?
Guest Rick Research Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 The Prussian Court and State Handbooks listed these, but the army Rank Lists did not. A non-oficer, non-civil servant would be hopeless, and an officer/civil servant with ONLY an EK also hopeless.
Claudius Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Sure Claudius, when I get back. nice! A list of "x" number is better than "who knows how may could have fit this combination..."
