Chris Boonzaier Posted September 20, 2011 Share Posted September 20, 2011 Hi, the column "A la Mer" are the dates he was at sea, the "A Terre" was on shore, so the corresponding "Terre" names are places (Brest, Toulon etc) and by the "Mer" they are ships names (Hard to read) If I remember correctly, somewhere there is an entry that this sailor did not speak French either ;-) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I can't find a reference for the French navy in that timeframe, but there have been a number of ships with those names over the years (except for the one I can't read). He went to Vietnam on her and earned the Tonkin Medal. On their return the Ship was ship wrecked on the Horn of Africa.
