perce Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hi Guys I got these as I liked them- I believe them to be copies but they've been denazified comments welcome If they're in the wrong forum please move Cheers Perce
Norm F Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hi Perce, I quite agree. Both are obvious cast reproductions which someone denazified, probably to make them appear more "genuine"? Best regards, ---Norm
Hauptmann Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 LOVE the plaque... what's the story behind it? Dan
perce Posted October 7, 2011 Author Posted October 7, 2011 the Plaque used to belong to my late Step mums late husband he was a submarine hoarder Albums full of photos and docs This was one of his favourite pieces (probably a copy too) Perce
Hauptmann Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 (edited) Why do you say it's a copy... seems to have the proper aged look, etc., and assuming it was in his collection for quite a number of years so that takes it back. What's it made of? What is the back like? Keep in mind that most of this type of thing were made by the crews themselves, often on the U-boats and ships they served on. The insignia is definitely correct for that particular boat: http://www.uboataces...nsignia11.shtml Here's some info on her: http://www.uboat.net/boats/u141.htm Dan  Edited October 7, 2011 by Hauptmann
Erik Krogh Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 As Norm already noted, both U-Boat badges are repros. The most obvious tipoffs for me are: the pin and reverse hardware on the clasp are all wrong, and "JMME" never made U-Boat (or any other KM) badges. All the Best, Erik
perce Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 As I said I believed the badges to be faked. My original zinc uboat badge was stolen several years ago. The plaque is made of scrap wood by the looks really quite unrefined Will photo the back of it Cheers Perce
