ccj
Is this a beamte type tunic? I'm looking at the star and it has a rosette superimposed on it. I thought beamte had a rosette only...
Paul R
It looks medical to me. I am new to this area, so I look forward to hearing other input!
ccj
Yes, the drawing is a medical. It shows rosettes for rank. I don't know what the rosettes are really supposed to look like.

ccj
Beamte rank rosette from Gordon. Whats the difference between this style rosette and the one on the pike gray tunic?

Markgraf
On the pike gray tunic are stars, not rosettes.

Markgraf
Ok, really confusing pieces - but more "star-like" than rosette IMHO And these stars were handmade, available from various craftsman and various quality. For example a contemporary uniform-catalogue were two type officer star: with or without sequins.
ccj
Markgraf, thank you for your help. So far you have been only person to comment. On another forum I'm told these are rosettes and a few people I know and have emailed also think rosette so it's very confusing. I have been researching and have only found one clear photo of this star/rose. I see period wartime photos that look like the stars are thick but I can't get detail to prove they look like this. ccj
Check out these. a chart with ranks and it shows rosettes and stars. The man in the photo appears to be an officer or beamte of the eissenbahn troops
ccj
STERNROSETTE is what I've learned. So, its a Beamte. I guess either most are on vacation or very few people have interest/knowledge of Austro-Hungarian militaria. So, it may be a veterinary official or a Militarbauingenieure. I see a lot of Imperial German, 3rd Reich, and other countries veterinary tunics. Even Finnish veterinary tunics are common so I guess an Austrian should be more common to find than a bauingenieure. There were thousands of animals in military service during WW1 and 2.
Markgraf
I asked my colleague in the Hungarian Military Museum. According his opinion this is a rosette. My mistake But surely not a veterinarian, because they have madder red collar. The previous picture: the collar badge isn't winged wheel but a flaming grenade. I think he is an Austrian gendarme from the interwar period.
Ulsterman
Ok I am confused (Oh Rick and Glenn-where art thou?). Do the Sternrose indicate officer status, are an embellishment or indicate Beamter status?
