drclaw Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Well this has appeared again, correctly labelled this time - Biyun Temple decoration. Was intrigued by this particular specimen when it was unsold at 1000 euros. Starting price - 4000 euros. http://coins-la-galerie-numismatique.com/auction-xx/china/bi-yun-temple-award It appears to be a sash badge. I've not seen any images of a breast star and it's still a mystery why a Temple would be handing out decorations. Edited October 28, 2013 by drclaw
JapanX Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Yep. Also same provenance "This order has been awarded to a French Air Force officer serving in China" Guess this officer was real devotee
paul wood Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 My suspicion is that it will remain with the consigner.Paul
JapanX Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Yes, €4000 is price tag for real fans of Biyun Temple decorations
utopis Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I think we haven't had this one yet. Silver, 42mm
paul wood Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Identical piece in Morton and Eden 29 November 2012 lot 142, described as uncertain provincial merit decoration.Paul
paul wood Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Aha thought there might be two around. Paul
drclaw Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Well that Biyun Temple award mentioned in #44 and #48, unsold at 1000 euros, then 4000 euros, CAN NOW BE YOURS FOR 5750 EUROS! It never ceases to amaze me how some dealers look at recent price trends in Chinese medals and think the sky is now the limit for their wares. My favourite examples: * Military Order of the Dragon - $12,500 (3-4 times what they would sell for at auction): http://www.emedals.com/collectors-gallery/world-nations/asia/china/military-order-of-the-dragon-w01276 * That mysterious Double Dragon discussed in: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/60611-russian-double-dragon/ At least the price has been reduced from the original $15,000 … It's left me wondering. Is this like Tiffany's where massively inflated prices generate cachet and an aura of exclusivity that customers flock to buy? Or do people just point and laugh? Edited April 21, 2014 by drclaw
Great Dane Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) I guess the latter... I once inquired about a (too) high priced item from the seller in question, asking if he was willing to reduce the price a little. He said no and then raised the price by 25%... That was 6-7 years ago... the item is still unsold... /Mike Edited April 22, 2014 by Great Dane
JapanX Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Now another very interesting award from 1923
JapanX Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Obviously suspension was borrowed from order of the Striped Tiger
JapanX Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 According to the seller this is Establishment of the Constitution Medal
paul wood Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Apart from being from 1923 do we know what it is for? Paul
JapanX Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) See my previous post You are pretty quick Edited August 4, 2014 by JapanX
JapanX Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 This one was described as Chihli-Shantung Joint Army, First Division Staff Medal Circa 1926
paul wood Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Nice item, looks like some of the Chinese medicine poachers got to the Tiger before he appeared on the medal.Paul
