Karhu Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Vulcan Medal 1st Class and Diploma Amilcar Cabral Order 1st Class "Jaime Mota" Medal of Military Merit
peter monahan Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Wonderful info. from both posters! Thank you. Karhu, you actually have photographs of one of the awards being worn. May we ask how you were lucky enough to get that? Is it your own? :)
Karhu Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Sorry Peter, not my personal medals. I was lucky enough to found them on the following websites. http://brito-semedo.blogs.sapo.cv/2010/07/17/ http://www.barrosbrito.com/13.html http://soscapvert.blogspot.de/2011_01_01_archive.html http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3QazOVC1zGY/TT2xS8nLp4I/AAAAAAAAFvk/_AAynbJa6c0/s1600/COND03%2B%25283%2529.jpg http://jorsoubrito.blogspot.de/2009/07/reluzentes-medalhas-de-merito-e-5-de.html Amongst other valuable informations you'll get there also these pictures. Order of the Dragon Tree/Plant 1st Class Medal of Distinguished Services 1st Class
peter monahan Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Lovely photos, Karhu. These are very attractive looking orders too which, sadly, is not always the case with the ODM of the newer nations, where national and political symbolism often seems to over rule heraldic and aesthetic factors. Thank you for sharing them. The Diploma attached also gives a good idea of the sort of thing for which the Distiguished Service medal is awarde so, again, thank you for sharing that.
Karhu Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 You are welcome, Peter. Here is an official portrait of the 4th President of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca (2011 - present). The breast star seems to be an amalgamation of the two orders, Amilcar Cabral Order (left medaillon) and the Order of the Dragon Tree/Plant (right medaillon). The sash combines also the ribbon colours of the two mentioned orders.
922F Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 President Fonseca's combined Order star [and likely insignia set] indicates an interesting continuation of Portuguese tradition.
peter monahan Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I can't say I like the 'combined' order nearly as well as the pieces posted earlier, but that is just me. Interesting, as you say, that the Portugese influence is still strong post independence.
Megan Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Fascinating... yet another nation to add to my website
