922F Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 A J. Lattes [of Cairo] case likely of Faud kingdom era perhaps for either a Medal for Meritorious Actions [founded 1916-17], a Medal for Devotion [founded 1920], or a Medal of Benevolence [founded 1927-28]. All were 3 class [gilt, silver, bronze] medals. Judging by the medal 'nest', Medal of Benevolence seems the best candidate. Fahmy Bichay said that his family firm used the name J. Lattes initially because a 'foreign name' sounded more prestigious than an Egyptian one.
oamotme Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Christer, I agre with 922F's suggestions. I attach images of the possible medal. I met with Mr Bichay a couple of times in the early 1990's and he told me his father had been the manager or similar for Lattes and took over the business from Lattes in the 1930's. IO may be that the "takeover" was more of a "makeover". Regards, Owain
