Paul R Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 This latest beauty is enroute to me now This one was flown at a unit where the Senior ranking Naval Officer in the Soviet Navy was present. I know that in the US Coast Guard, every unit has a flag for each of the flag officer(General/Admiral Ranks) in case of a visit. When an Admiral is on board of a unit, a special flag was flown to show that he is on board. There is a different flag for each Admiral Ranking, including the branch Commandant. This flag is for the highest rank of Soviet Admiral. I hope that you like it as much as I do.
achern Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Lovely. Would this be for the rank of Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union?
Paul R Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 That is what I am being told. I think that every ship and base would have had to keep one of these in case of a visit.
Paul R Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Thanks Larry!! Hope that you are doing well!
achern Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Very nice one Paul. Does this equate to a Lord High Admiral of the RN? I have a flag of the LHA, a giant one which could well be a curtain for my window!
Paul R Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I dont really know. Is that the highest naval rank in the British Navy? I really want to see your flag! Please start a thread on it.
achern Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 The highest operational rank for the RN used to be Admiral of the Fleet of the RN, a five-star rank. Lord High Admiral I think is more of a commander-in-chief sort of appointment. I think these links explain it better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiralty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lord_High_Admirals_and_First_Lords_of_the_Admiralty I have two flags - a staff car pennant used by HM Elizabeth II, and the huge flag.
achern Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Paul, here is the link to the small flag: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/57140-lord-high-admiral-staff-car-pennant/?p=529770 I dont really know. Is that the highest naval rank in the British Navy? I really want to see your flag! Please start a thread on it.
Paul R Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Here is another huge one I just received the other day, as a nice gift. What does the extra blue stripe mean?
