Paul R
This latest beauty is enroute to me now This one was flown at a unit where the Senior ranking Naval Officer in the Soviet Navy was present. I know that in the US Coast Guard, every unit has a flag for each of the flag officer(General/Admiral Ranks) in case of a visit. When an Admiral is on board of a unit, a special flag was flown to show that he is on board. There is a different flag for each Admiral Ranking, including the branch Commandant. This flag is for the highest rank of Soviet Admiral. I hope that you like it as much as I do.
achern
Lovely. Would this be for the rank of Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union?
Paul R
That is what I am being told. I think that every ship and base would have had to keep one of these in case of a visit.

achern
Very nice one Paul. Does this equate to a Lord High Admiral of the RN? I have a flag of the LHA, a giant one which could well be a curtain for my window!
Paul R
I dont really know. Is that the highest naval rank in the British Navy? I really want to see your flag! Please start a thread on it.
achern
The highest operational rank for the RN used to be Admiral of the Fleet of the RN, a five-star rank. Lord High Admiral I think is more of a commander-in-chief sort of appointment. I think these links explain it better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiralty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lord_High_Admirals_and_First_Lords_of_the_Admiralty I have two flags - a staff car pennant used by HM Elizabeth II, and the huge flag.
