Yankee Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Unfortunately I don`t have coordinates of "manufacturer"... My wife tells me the Russians are good with their hands, her being Russian probably close to home.
Yankee Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Well, "all items are sold “as is” and there will be no returns based on condition". I wonder if "not very original" is incorporated into "condition" I for one would not want to test their return policy with the terms you stated above. To protect the integrity of the Auction House they should comply a full return if the buyer discovers what occured. I'd like to believe these quality fakes passing through the Auction House have no knowledge themselves.
JapanX Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Any idea where these are being made? According to one (unconfirmed ) source these came straight from Moscow
JapanX Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Piece from posts #73-75 is currently for sale at eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/RUSSIAN-ORDER-ST-GEORGY-WITH-THE-TAPE-ST-PETERBURG-NOT-THE-SOVIET-/271554026515?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f39e19c13 only $8,000
Yankee Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Piece from posts #73-75 is currently for sale at eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/RUSSIAN-ORDER-ST-GEORGY-WITH-THE-TAPE-ST-PETERBURG-NOT-THE-SOVIET-/271554026515?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f39e19c13 only $8,000 The auction firms don't want to be a dumping ground if they can help it so ebay is the default button. I just hope ebay has a easy return policy for the buyer but I'm not so sure if he or she would ever discover - not even weights and measurements could apply to this high end quality piece.
JapanX Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 Actually this is his second (third?) attempt
Yankee Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Actually this is his second (third?) attempt If he was not asking the moon, it would have been long out of his hands. Let us hope he continues to use ebay I think this cross is a one of a kind ( painted center ) and not mass produced which is unfortunate.
Yankee Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Talking about quality 55 (3).jpg 56.jpg Are you telling me they are all fake? The upper right does look questionable but the others look smashing.
JapanX Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 Are you telling me they are all fake? They certainly are
JapanX Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 ... and not mass produced which is unfortunate. Don`t worry, There are plenty of others
JapanX Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 Now let`s have some magic. For this we gonna need and two new medallions of St.George order.
Yankee Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 They certainly are Any idea if they are solid silver ? & if so could be cast copies.
Yankee Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Don`t worry, There are plenty of others 2.jpg OK so much for my theory There must be a whole artist colony hard at work as we write. Hate to think what I might have..
Yankee Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Now let`s have some magic. For this we gonna need 11.jpg 12.jpg and two new medallions of St.George order. I remember way back another collector telling me that the forgers were taking perfectly good gold Oak Crown breast badges and turning them into Saint George's. At first I thought he was joking, than realized he was dead serious having not seen gold Oak Crowns of late. They use to be cheap and plentiful. To destroy a perfectly good order is disgusting if only there was a way to stop this practice.
larsb001 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Regarding Imperial Russian miniatures you could also have a look at these old posts which I wrote several years ago, since then these types have been sold at various auction all over the world. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/36523-imperial-russian-miniature-decorations/ The same dealer had in the coming years been lucky with his purchases again and again and have also traded these (have unfortunately lost alot of pics) ....
JapanX Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Any idea if they are solid silver ? Piece in post #112 is in bronze
JapanX Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) The same dealer had in the coming years been lucky with his purchases again and again Yes, I noticed them too By the way, what do you think about these two swords? Edited August 24, 2014 by JapanX
Yankee Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Piece in post #112 is in bronze Piece in post #112 is in bronze In regards to the life saving medal ( post 108 top right )Thies has two in his upcoming auction in September.
JapanX Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Thies has two in his upcoming auction in September. This is not the first (and certainly not the last) fake ...
Yankee Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 This is not the first (and certainly not the last) fake ... Even Thies can't tell & he is knowledgeable well with the German States to be certain.
JapanX Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 They all (knowledgeably or unknowledgeably) sell fakes now and then ;)
