Mervyn Mitton Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I wonder if anyone can identify the Regt. shown on the back of this Frog - also, confirmation that the symbols near the top of the grip are 2nd WW ? Many thanks Mervyn http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2012/post-6209-0-20300900-1348502884.jpgclick

peter monahan Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I'm going to guess that 'IR 139' is "Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 139", of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 24th Infantry Division, 1914-18, for whatever that's worth. No idea about the markings.
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Agree... can we see the whole things? Thanks Chris
Mervyn Mitton Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 I originally identified it as the 1914 pattern - changed from the South American version . http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2012/post-6209-0-92988300-1348771521.jpgclick
Chris Boonzaier Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Is there a stamp on the back of the blade just above the hilt?
Mervyn Mitton Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks for your interest Chris. A few detail photos herewith. Mervyn http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2012/post-6209-0-45490500-1349013749.jpgclick

werner Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Hello, The bayo itself is ww2 era and is for a german Kar 98k. The markings on the grip are german Waffenamts. The frog is not from this bayo. Here are some examples.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Sorry, I missed the last lot of photos, Nice and regular 1938 issued bayonet.
Spasm Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Yep, a nice matching numbers K98 bayonet, looks like its got good blueing on the blade too. Made by F.W. Holler, Solingen in 1938 - hence the 38 stamp. The scabbard should be stamped F.W. Holler 1938 on the frog side. There should also be Waffen-Amt '253' stamps on the release button, on the flat back of the handle and under the grip. There may also be one on the ball of the scabbard. Nice one but definitely WW2.
Mervyn Mitton Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Thanks everyone - your advice is greatly appreciated. Outside of our own fields we all need help from time to time. Mervyn
