Gunther Beckmann Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 (edited) And that is the classic Juncker case, correct for any of their Private-Purchase Badges. One just sold today in france for $600. !! (only the case!)I greatly appreciate the pictures and the comments.I was thinking about it and $600.00 does sound like a lot of money. The majority of us do not live where there are large militaria shows near by. What do you think the odds are of finding an authentic CE Juncker case for the Prussian pilot badge locally? It could take a life time if you just waited for the local area antique shops to have one available. Even then, what do you suppose they would charge? So it's off to the MAX or the SOS to try and find one. The airfare from here would be between $500.00 to $700.00 to Louisville or Indianapolis, rent a car, book a motel for four days, meals, gratuities and on and on. You could easily blow 2K and not even find what you're looking for. Not to meantion what a delight air travel is these days... So, now does the $600.00 sound like so much? Sounds like a bargain to me...What is truely a wonder of this 21st century is the Internet and these fantastic forums. People like me have access to highly experienced and knowledgeable people that are more than willing to share their expertise. For this I am eternally greatful..That's right, you guessed it, twas I........GB Edited February 13, 2006 by Gunther Beckmann
Luftmensch Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 (edited) Aren't you lucky! For some reason I cancelled my bid of 755 at the last moment. Find a badge that fits snugly and the ensemble can go for 2000+. Well done. But you should still try to do SOS. It's a great education, quite apart from whether you spend any money. Stogieman Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I didn't think it was a lot.... I'll buy every one you guys have for that! You shouldn't have canceled your bid John, this one would have been perfect for what you need. I was busy shoveling.......... 24" of snow today!
Luftmensch Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I know, Rick, I know. I've just been spending like a drunken sailor, lately--no offence to drunken sailors.

I am a life member of the MAX organization and have been to, at least, ten Max shows and I've been to the SOS a couple of times. Both are excellent shows. The SOS is growing exponentially.. But as I gain in age and wisdom, and if I must travel, it's the Caribbean for me...This is a nice forum...
Stogieman Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 The Caribbean sounds perfect. Sign me up!
Luftmensch Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Fuhgeddaboudit, I grew up in Jamaica...(transplanted from Toronto)...it's definitely past its prime. Stogie, I got a nice patch picked out for you on the North Sea....remember?
Gunther Beckmann Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 The Caribbean sounds perfect. Sign me up!I have another question for you guys...This CE Juncker case for the Prussian pilot badge, what period do you feel it comes from, pre - 1918 or post - 1918? I ask because I have zero experience with these cases..........TIAGB
Luftmensch Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 (edited) I don't believe there is any way to date a case, unless you have accompanying material that suggests pre- or post-war. My personal bias is that fewer cases survived wartime use, and the majority of cases extant were from post-war purchases in which the badges rarely left the box.I have several attributable groups with multiple wartime badges...no boxes...they all came on their own. I've never seen any one else's wartime attributable group with a surviving case. Anybody know of one?Actually, I used to have a cased Poellath pilot that looked like it was bent in a plane crash...but it was just as likley his grandson took a wooden mallet to it! Ramblinfarms Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 When there is 21" of snow on the ground and 40 mph plus winds, the only place to be is the caribbean, or sitting in front of your computer spending money like a drunken sailor!
Tim Tezer Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 One thing worth mentioning: beware of Juncker cases with purple linings. They are reproduced and sold by Muller cases in the UK, and I have often seen them paired up with fake badges and sold on Ebay. Here is the link to Muller's site, which unfortunately has very small photos:Muller Reproduction CasesYou can find the Juncker WW1 Pilot's Badge case under the "Luftwaffe" heading in their catalog.Tim
Luftmensch Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Ouch, he's got a Luftwaffe Honour Goblet case....Amen, Tim, but when you see these on eBay it's hard to mistake them, the gilt logo screams at you. I'm waiting for someone to work at dusting these repros down a bit and taking the lustre off which is why, truth be told, I passed on the one in France, because the pictures were so poor and I was too lazy to push for better images.

I agree the images they had on the auction were out of focus but I had them take several new pics and send them to me before I bid.. It's an authentic case, I'm just not certain if it's pre or post 1918......... Still hard to find....GB
Stogieman Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Hallo Gunther, I don't think it matters pre-/post-1918... cases were the same.
