Guest Rick Research Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 This is Lieutenant Colonel of artillery or rockets Miron Fedorovich Burgy, dated 15 July 1977 at the Zhitomir Higher Command School for Radio-Electrical Anti-Aircraft Defense "in the name of Leninsky Komsomol"-- What is he wearing next to his white military academy badge? Two things always strike me about Soviet personnel files of this period: 1) they are much "hairier" than American military personnel were (check out those sideburns!!!!), and 2) here's a senior officer in a vital branch of service, 20+ years in and NO merit award at all!
JapanX Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Hmmm... Good questions. Maybe some kind commemoration badge of his formation?
Guest Rick Research Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I also have a colleagues photo--in the way of brown bags full of these discarded photos, once upon a time, and the other officer there didn't have one. The photo is too blurry to tell much beyond nice looking enamel.
JapanX Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Well, I checked all badges of Zhitomir Higher Command School - it isn't one of them ...
Guest Rick Research Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Lonnnng hours hunting are never any guarantee of success in the research world, alas. Sometimes it comes down to LUCK. Thanks for looking.
JapanX Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) Hi Tom, excellent guess! Yes, it looks like one and most likely it is. "Excellent of measurement technique of weights and measures department of USSR" “Отличник измерительной техники госслужбы мер и весов СССР" Established on April 22, 1945 by CHK CCCP (СНК, a.k.a. Совнарком) - Council of People's Commissars of USSR) order # 829. Was established in commemoration of 100 years jubilee of Board of Weights and Measures. Cheers, Nick Edited July 31, 2013 by JapanX
Guest Rick Research Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 That is certainly it! You amaze me! It is certainly a beautiful looking badge. How long was that badge awarded? Burgy had nothing from before his 1958 Armed Forces Jubilee Medal.
JapanX Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I think at least until 60s. Badges were numbered. Earlier badges had number engraved on the upper part оf reverse, later - at the bottom of reverse. I'll post a few examples in a couple of days ;)
JapanX Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The maximum number (i.e. the max number I am aware of )
