Jock Auld Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Guys,This is made from a shell case for a 4cm weapon system.Any ideas on the country of origin?CheersJock)
peter monahan Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) JockThe crown with the bent cross is on top is the Holy Crown of the Kingdom of Hungary. So presumably your shell came out of an arsenal in the Hungarian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. [i'm assuming WWI vintage for the shell.]Peter Edited September 7, 2013 by peter monahan
Jock Auld Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 Peter,thanks for the steer!It is dated 1940 but I presume still possible?Thanks again!Jock:)
peter monahan Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Absolutely - there was 2nd war trench art too, just not as common because, on most fronts, there wasn't the same situation of months and months of sitting around, but the war did last 5 years, so some of the boys had time to get really bored too! Glad I could help.
Auseklis Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Since it is for a 40mm Bofors AA-Gun, you can rule out WW1
