Riley1965 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 My 1st ORB is now being researched!!! I contacted the gentleman who researched my brother-sister group and he is now researching my 1st ORB. I can't wait to hear the story behind this one!!!Doc
Bryan Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 And here are pictures of my first Order of the Red Banner screwback.
Gerd Becker Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I love it, Bryan . That one screams for research
Ed_Haynes Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 These early screwbacks seem to hide lovely stories, each and every one of them. We have a duty to history to reveal their tales.

This number should date around October 1942, btw.
Bryan Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 (edited) Yes I'm planning to research it, but it would be in a few months because I'll be away from home for few months.I don't know if you can see it on the next picture, but the screwback has been shortened. There isn't much place to screw the nut. To you have any idea if it could have broken or it was shortened by somebody? Edited March 21, 2006 by Soviet

The screwpost is often very pointy and stung at times, i guess. Edited March 21, 2006 by Gerd Becker

You are right. he seller just told me that it was shortened by the owner for comfort, because the original screwpost was too long. He says it's not unusual.
Stogieman Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I think it's great when we get to hear the story behind these. I have a pile in research now.... the wait is a bummer but the results are often well worth it! I suspect that as with many other issues surrounding Soviet collecting we will get cut off from this aspect as well.

Bryan Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I have a stupid question to ask. Why some Red Banner screwback have a silver finished and other a gold finished? (Gold on the left and silver on the right)I thought before that the gold finished came with later issued Red Banner. I have a post-war Red Banner with a gold finished and my 2 WWII Red Banners have a silver finished.I would appreciate if somebody could enlighten me?
Guest Alanirvine Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Doc,Might it be that the gild has worn off and what you see is the silver under coat?Alanirine
