Obergefreiter
I'll be the first to admit that I don't know doodly-squat about British medals. Can someone please tell me what this is?
Spasm
The War Medal 1939-1945 is a British decoration awarded to those who served in the Armed Forces or Merchant Navy full-time for at least 28 days between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. Fairly easily available for about a tenner. Edited January 9, 2014 by Spasm

Pylon1357
It is difficult to determine if this example is silver or cupro-nickel. The Canadian version of this medal is silver, and thus worth a little more. Unfortunately these are usually unnamed, but Australia, South Africa and I believe New Zealand, named them. paul wood
Those regiments which remained with India after partition also had them named. Paul
