Mark McM Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 hello all... Just acquired this militarpass/soldbuch. Don't have all in hand just yet, only these scant images. Any preliminary or cursory thoughts on translation?? Thanks!
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Hi, Its like the box of chocolates that may contain anything.... a Nice unit, but years before the war.... What he ended up in during the war is going to be the big suprise. best Chris
Marcin L Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Hi Mark, Nice MIlitarpass of Garde Grenadier Regiment Nr. 3. Just click on the link to get more information about the unit - I have very similar document on my website. I think Chris is right - your guy is Jahresklasse 1894 (born 1874), so during the mobilization he was probably called into service as a Landsturmmann (if any). But let's wait for the whole document :-) Kind regards, Marcin
Glenn J Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 The Führungs-Zeugniß is signed by Hauptmann (later Oberstleutnant) Fritz v. Holleufer (1856-1916). Regards Glenn
Mark McM Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 off to a good start, guys! The info is much appreciated! Thanks a million! As soon as it arrives I'll be sure to post additional pics!
IrishGunner Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 The blue cover sleeve alone is nice... I don't see many of these offered for sale...(of course, that just may be where I look).
Mark McM Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 ... a new development. A group of five CDVs are included with the pass & document! Do not know if any of the photos are identified on the reverse... can't wait for this group to arrive!
Marcin L Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Mark, very nice group. Is it your first MIlitarpass? Wait until you have 10 - that's a piece of untold history. Regards, Marcin
Mark McM Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Hi Marcin, Actually, this is the first Militarpass for me. I generally don't do documents and have turned down opportunities to own them in the past, but this one seemed too nice to let pass by. Regards, Mark ~
