Elmar Lang
Just to add something to this interesting thread, here's a miniature of the Golden Fleece with brilliants, from my collection. The piece is made of gold and the suspension ring bears the marks of Rothe, Vienna, prior to 1918:

Elmar Lang
I think I have to agree with Iver's opinion. Thank you for the kind comment about my little miniature. E.L.
Peter J
Elmer, I can't beat that, beatutiful miniature I haven't tested the material, but given the nuance of the fleece, I assume it's gold. The enclosed image illustrates a Vasa in gold and a smaller version in gilded silver. The silver version has a much darker appearance. The width of the fleece is 8,91mm, the center section 11,06mm, the pendang 8,64mm and the overall length 31,63 including the suspension ball. Elmar Lang
Yes, I'm sure that your GVO-miniature is made of gold. All the best, E.L.
Iver
...looks very similar to a piece mentioned in article from mr. Tusek: Miniatures of austrian orders from monarchy era, part 2 - order of golden fleece, in SIGNUM 4/december 2003... "...miniature in gold, made after 1920..."
