I dont know how much of that is "real" and if there is a bit of a padding to his history.... He claims over 154 paracgute jumps with the Legion before WW2... at which time the French had no paratroopers ? Maybe an error by the journalist?

No. He made 154 jumps in his career, not before WWII.
