Chris Boonzaier Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Just picked this up.... In April 1918 the 6th Company left the battlefield with just 10 men standing.... one of this was this Gefreiter.... on the 6th of April there was a medal parade....very scarce to find a Gefreiter with an EK1.... and especially with a nice bit of history behind it ....
Claudius Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Nice pick-up Chris. Really neat to see early dates to some of his awards. He did well until April 1918 when his luck ran out. He might have been one of ten remaining, but he wasn't unscathed -Black VW on 29.4.18.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Yeah, but there is no hospital entries, many if these early 1918 wound badges Are for mich earlier wounds
Naxos Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Nice Soldbuch! Christian Waruck was slightly wounded on July 26, 1915
dond Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 "its merely a flesh wound!!!" he said in his best Monty Python voice.
Robin Lumsden Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Nice !! As a Gefreiter with an EK1, he could have ended up leading the country !!
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 Nice !! As a Gefreiter with an EK1, he could have ended up leading the country !! Indeed... Ulsterman once calculated that a Gefreiter with an EK1 was rarer than an officer with a PLM !
