NavyFCO Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 A friend of mine was selling this and even though I don't collect Soviet awards, I couldn't pass it up! Auke is researching it for me...I look forward to finding out who it belonged to! Enjoy!
Ferdinand Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 That's a pretty cool piece! Who in his right mind would prefer a screwback device?
NavyFCO Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 I have a feeling that this person already had holes in their uniform, so when the unit forced them to change the hanger, they "rebelled" and kept it a screwback. Or at least that's my theory! Whoever did it did a very nice job of it!
Paul R Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I cant wait to see what you come back with. I would kill for that one! Nice find.
NavyFCO Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Looks like he was at or near Rzhev during the first offensive, based on the citation of the other guy (below his). He was an artilleryman (cannon artillery?) and that's probably the reason for having it secure on his uniform...or at least my hypothesis!!
Paul R Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 What actions did he perform to be awarded the medal? Any mention of other awards in his record or awards card?
