I think it's something to do with the tender process, i.e. the manufacture. The design, warrant and clasp criteria (to date) have all been sorted. The design is surprisingly traditional and a departure from recent design trends. It's quite Victorian in overtone.

Thank you, but given the amount of info incl DINs which can be found on open source links, I'm sure if site members searched hard enough they'd find all the wanted to know about the new award.  Even your modest representation of the medal ribbon should see you hauled of to the tower..!

I see that a company called Empire Medals is advertising miniatures for the GSM 2008.  The five bars are:

Arabian Peninsula, Eastern Africa, Northern Africa, Western Africa and Southern Asia.

I assume this will go along with the previous GSM, whereby one with medal multiple clasps as apposed to the OSM whereby multiple medals awarded, to a single serviceman/women.

Spoke to the Medals Office last week. They only had 46 initially made and they were issued by SofS for Def earlier this year. They will not have anymore until next Spring.

however you can buy your miniature now from many outlets!

Interesting concept but what about such campaigns as Northern Ireland they issued a medal for that? What happens if we don't win in Iraq/Syria will they not issue a medal?

I agree, considering it's far more higher profile than the other campaign bars issued. I wonder whether it'll have a medal in it's own right perhaps?
