Jock Auld Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Guys,From today's finds. Totally as it was, not messed with. Can't see anything overtly wrong with the helmet, perhaps it failed on the steel quality or such like? couple more pics of decal
Hoss Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Looks like a nice one Jock if i remember correctly all beaded helms are classed none combat. Eric
Tony Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Jock/Eric, are these ballistic failures? I always thought (as a non TR collector) they were purposely made two piece helmets for the home front. Tony
Jock Auld Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Tony, No they are still a one piece helmet that has failed to come up to code somehow. They exist in all three models ie 35, 40 and 42. they are often called Kradmelder helmets but the bottom line is they failed code and are re entered into a production line that then stamps the beaded ring into the helmet so that it can never be confused with a helmet that passed code. They are then sent down the civic line Fire Luftschutz etc. I do have some where there are obvious flaws on the helmet. I shall try and dig them up.
Tony Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Thanks for the explanation Jock, if I ever see one I'll pick it up and have a good look. By the way, I can spot the M42 model but the M35 and 40 look the same to me Tony
Jock Auld Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 35 has a separate vent holes riveted into place where the 40 is just a hole stamped in the shell like the 42

Paul R Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Very interesting. I had no clue that beaded helmets were combat helmets that failed quality assurance tests Very cool. Thanks!
Spasm Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I can't remember where I found these but are a good reminder of models of helmets, also, those of you who have relics with no stampings there's an identifying method for the manufacturer (well sort of as long as you have comparisons),
Hoss Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Top row should read German M-16 Austrian M-17 German M-18 Eric
