bigjarofwasps
Just out of interest, how easy is it to research City of London Police Officers, who were awarded the 1887 & 1897 Jubilee Medals?
MetPolice
There is a London Metropolitan Archives guide on this, that you can download from their website. Zeb Here it is: https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/london-metropolitan-archives/visitor-information/Documents/43-records-of-city-of-london-police-officers.pdf
bigjarofwasps
Just out of interest, how did the City Police name their medals, is the below example an officer or civilian?
Guest pikemedals
J Hogg was a civilian. I see the medal made very good money paul
Brett Hendey
I once made a small collection of Jubilee and Coronation Medals, among which was a pair awarded to 694 PC James Allen (Warrant no. 6635). He joined the City of London Police on 2/5/1895, a single man aged 24 years and 6 months. He was appointed to the Fourth Division. He retired unfit on 7/2/1907 with a gratuity of 95 GBP. (Source: City of London Police Warrant Book 1878-2001. Allen's personnel file has not survived. Information provided by Bridget Howlett, Senior Archivist.) Allen's medals are among my favourites, and I once had the hope of collecting more City of London medals, but that was in vain. Mike McLellan
Very nice, and much, much more scarce than those of the "other" London agency.
Brett Hendey
Thank you for your comments, Mike. I have a similar pair of medals to a man from the "other" London agency, but it is much less appealing! Regards Brett
