CRBeery Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 To all, I am going through my items to gain more knowledge about them and I am having trouble with the old Sutterlin. Can someone please help with his name and where he was born? i see Marlin but the other two I can't even guess on. He served in the 2nd Nassau Infantry Regiment. Thanks!
Naxos Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Fueselier (rifleman) Jakob Martin - born March 3, 1842 in Hadamar (district of) Ober Lahn - Religion: Catholic - Occupation: Bauer
bolewts58 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Its not Sütterlin, but Kurrentschrift. Sütterlin was a modernized, simplified form of Kurrentschrift, only introduced into German schools in 1915 and which didn't enter wide use until the late 20s. It was taught as the primary handwriting form until 1941 until banned by the Nazis. It was re-introduced after the war as a secondary cursive form (Latin cursive being the primary) and taught in some parts of Germany until the 1970s.
