dante Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Going through some passes I have found this....underlined....RIR 213 was with 89 infantry brigade which was part of 207 division, 5th Army...would he have been part of Sturmbattalion 5 ?
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Hi, Many Divisions etc had formed designated Sturm Units by 1918, often they went through a rudimentry training course with their local Sturm Bataillon, but were not part of the bataillon. Nice find!
GreyC Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) Hi! In German they were called "nicht etatisiert", meaning not listed as unit in its own right within the military budget plan. GreyC Hi again, the RIR 213 was part of the RIBr 89 in Oct. of 1918 and maybe earlier . The RIR 213 was based in Schleswig Holstein, in the north of Germany. They have a printed regimental history. GreyC Indeed, often a specific Company, or even a Battalion was taken from a Regiment and designated as the Sturm Unit of the division Although in some divisions they seem to have picked the younger and fitter men to form a sturm unit, they were still on the rolls of their parent unit as far as pay etc went.
GreyC Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Dante, please note that RIR 213 was not, as you write, part of the 89. Infanterie Brigade, but of the 89. RESERVE Infanterie Brigade (just stress this, because it´s easily confused. The 89th IB was Saxon). GreyC
