Ulsterman Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 I know you like them, so I thought I'd show you this. I am wondering about this one-as there's a Bulgarian badge that's a bit unusual for this rank peeking out from his left.
Guest Rick Research Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Ha! I like it! It makes you wonder why, when they handed out their wings to people who did not fly, they would have given their INFANTRY badge to an air force officer.More interesting to moi, the Good Twin of course, is the tale that his wacky ribbon bar tells:EK2 1914KVK2XHCXSudeten AnnexationLuftwaffe 12Luftwaffe 4Third Reich Civil Service 25Bulgarian WW1 Commemorative MedalLet's see who has been paying attention and can "read" that. (Looks just like "Lost" ex-hobbit Dominic Monaghan with a Dolf 'stache, BTW)
J Temple-West Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Yep, a great photo of an old ?jack of all trades? campaigner.Could the Luftwaffe long service medals be a little longer..18/4 or 25/12 seeing that he flew in WW1 or would his early service time not count? And yes, that is a Bulgarian Infantry badge..Well spotted! The Bulgarian Infantry badge came in three grades...Gold, silver and bronze.
Guest Rick Research Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Nope--can ONLY be a 12 and 4. He was a civil servant and NOT a Luftwaffe career guy. I'm surprised to see TWO pips on his boards and THREE gulls on his tabs-- he did pretty darned good for himself, from his background.
Guest WAR LORD Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 The Badge of Honour of the Bulgarian Infantry, was awarded by the Bulgarian Inspector General of Infantry, for distinguished conduct in the field. This badge could also be awarded to German personnel. It was awarded to Germans who took part in join operations against partisan brigades in the Balkans. Thus possibly a Luftwaffe observer or thelike in the campaigne.
Scott Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 For a moment there, I thought the eagle on his hat was flying in the wrong direction!SCott
Stogieman Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Great Photo Ulsterman.... always nice to see these Imperial badges, no matter what uniform they're on!
