    Hello Chris.

I have reviewed the history of this battalion and was unable to come up with a similar name in any of the personnel lists contained in it.

I read the name as K. Gremels or possibly Gremmels considering the horizontal stroke atop the "m" indicating a "mm".

    Hi Bernhard,

Thanks, the tip with the double M nailed it. Gremmels is not a comman name and seems to be mainly found in the Hannover area.

I combed all 3 volumes, it seems he was not an officer, not an EK1 recipient and not KIA... otherwise I cannot find any name lists?

    Hi,

sorry I seem to be visually impaired. What Regiment/Battalion are you looking for?

There were K. Gremmels in at least IR 77, RIR 81, RIR 203, RIR 215 and 1.GResR.

    Hello readers.

I do agree with Andy re. Gremmers. The letter before the last on third or fourth look must be "r".

Grey c. :The Goslar location given as the location of the cap's maker seems to point  to Jg.Bataillon 10 (Hannoversches) garrisoned in Goslar. Distinguished with the "Gibraltar" cuff title.

    Hello Andy.

Well Gremmels seems to be the one after all.

    I.R. 77 was a Hanoverian regiment ( 2.Hannoversches Infanterie Regiment Nr.77 ).

RIR 215 was apparently recruited from Hanoverian area.

It is of course 100% supposition, but based on a number of the cases I have had with the 2nd Bavarian Jäger.... it is very possible for a guy to have been in the 2nd Jäger, then land up in an infantry unit, then to return to the Jäger at demobilisation. It is possible that Gremmels was only in the 10th Jäger for a short period of time, although the hat is well worn....
