Ed_Haynes
This complete and fully documented group has already been discussed, over on the "Soviet and Eastern Bloc" forum, but, if DDR is indeed welcomed, I thought I might cross-reference it here:http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2455If there is any interest, I could post these items here, but as they're already up there, it seems needless duplication. Just so you know what awaits you, I quote from the first post and attach the group scan.1- Hero of Work2- Verdienstmedaille der Deutsche Demokratische Republik3- Verdienter Techniker des Volkes4- Verdienstmedaille der Zivilverteidigung5- Verdeinter Aktivist6- Aktivist des Siebenjahreplans 19617- Aktivist des Siebenjahreplans 19658- Aktivist des Siebenjahreplans 19669- Aktivist des Siebenjahreplans [1968]10- Arthur-Becker-Medaille I11- Arthur-Becker-Medaille II12- Arthur-Becker-Medaille III (suspension clasp only) Edited April 4, 2006 by Ed_Haynes
ehrentitle
Were you every able to find out more background through the Neues Deutschland archives? Are you collecting DDR medals or was this an opportunity you just couldn't pass up? Kevin
Grant Broadhurst
Hi Ed ,you,ll have to forgive me as i am completly new to east german awards , is the hero of work a rare award if so approx. how many were issued ?
Ed_Haynes
I have a general interest (sub-interest?) in labor awards of the broadly defined "socialist" world (and a few isolated intererest islands in DDR, to be shown later, over there). This group was in my interest zone and a nice opportunity, so it has come to live with me now.

Pretty high, yes. Numbers? I do not know, sorry. Wish I did.

Paul R
That is a bummer! I was hoping to find some example someday! Are these made of solid gold?
Ed_Haynes
That is a bummer! I was hoping to find some example someday! Are these made of solid gold? No, alas. The early ones (1954-72) were silver (900) gilt, with the later ones (1973-89) are delicately described by Bartel as "Buntmetall goldfarben"; I'd not have been so generous. No where near as sexy as their Soviet (or Bulgarian, beyond that I cannot say) siblings. Still . . . i like 'em. Have another one, a singleton, which I'll post when I get it home to visit. Ed_Haynes
While most of the other medals in Febr's group are pretty familiar, and have been posted on the other thread, I'd be happy to post the medals and/of his urkunde over here (as well). Your wish is my command . . . .
