Chris Boonzaier Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Hi, This man was a Feldwebel in 1914 in the Leib Grenadier Regt 100.... Who can figure out the awards? :-)
dedehansen Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Hi Chris, S.E.s.V.M., sächsische Herzogtümer silberne Verdienstmedaille des Sachsen-Ernestinischen Hausordens EK1 and EK2, Preußen SFAM silberne Friedrich August Medaille E.K. mit Schwertern, Sachsen Ehrenkreuz mit Schwertern Kind regards Andreas
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 19, 2017 Author Posted July 19, 2017 Hi, thanks, do you have any ideas for the one next to the EK2? awarded 15 April 1915? Looks to be Ernestinischen as well... All the best Chris
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Hi, do you think "Es" could be some clerks Kurzel for Ernestinischen ? Best Chris
Dave Danner Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Given the regiment, it seems like it should be another Sachsen-Meiningen award. Swords to the prewar silver medal of the Ernestine Hausorden might make sense, although at least 175 enlisted men in LGR 100 received the Ehrenmedaille für Verdienst im Kriege. I have no idea how Saxony chose to abbreviate this award.
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 Wow... I like a good mystery! Maybe the unit clerk made it up?
