Uffz. Rohleder Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Hello all, got this French medal. Im just looking for some medals to put them next to my ww1 Adrian helmet. Are this a ww1 exemple or a later cross?
Bayern Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Hello, The Cross was created in the year 1930, destined to the Great War veterans. The ribbon was bleu horizon with the stripes in madder red. the Vichy regime reinstallated the cross but with a ribbon bleu horizon with black stripes . it was destinated to the veterans of 1939 1940. In 1944 this Cross was forbidden. the year 1948 was reinstallaed and today is still awarded.
Bayern Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Hello, It looks as if Mr Brucker Louis ,petty officer in the second half flotilla of minesweepers campaigned from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea between 1914 and 1918 and himself bought a Diploma and filled it. no signatures ,no seals , no date of award .

Hi, nope :-) It is standard for the Germans who served in the German Army from Areas that went to France after WW1... They were awarded Croix de Combattant and wound medals if they were wounded...
Bayern Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Hello Chris, Its true, the North Sea to the Baltic, including Oesel,Dago ,Riga Reval were not field of action of any French Half Flotilla of minesweepers. Mr Brucker was German

Mr Brucker was German Indeed... but when alsace went back to France after WW1... he was French ... so he was entitled to this... I am curious if he received the Hindenburg Cross when Alsace was German again in WW2 .... Technically he was entitled to both :-)
Bayern Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Hello Chris. If Mr Brucker was alive post May of 1940, Its the most possible that he received the Hindenburg Cross .380 000 Alsatian and Lotharingians served into the German Army during WW1 with a very low rate of deserters most of them in the Eastern Front. About 18000 Alsatians and Lotharingians volunteered to serve with the French Army
