G Hanson Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Hi all, Can anyone please tell me what period these collar number fixtures were used?
Dave Wilkinson Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 They are still used currently by some forces that use collar badges. The height of their popularity was probably the 60's & 70's. Dave.
G Hanson Posted May 2, 2019 Author Posted May 2, 2019 Thanks Dave. Would I be right in believing Victorian era would have split pin fixing?
Dave Wilkinson Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Possibly, but the screw fasteners were also used during the Vic. period. Dave.
G Hanson Posted May 6, 2019 Author Posted May 6, 2019 Sorry, completely forgot to post the front. Would be nice if these were of the Victorian period.
Dave Wilkinson Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Unfortunately, there is no easy way of telling. White metal (German silver) which is what these numbers appear to be made of, was used up until the mid-1930's when the same design etc was chrome plated. Dave.
G Hanson Posted May 6, 2019 Author Posted May 6, 2019 The fact that there is a possibility they could be Victorian is enough to make me happy. Do you think the leather is from the collar of the tunic?

Do you think the leather is from the collar of the tunic? I agree cracking example, 681 would appear to be a very high number mind? There was only 465 officers in H Division in 1887 and only 475 in 1902. Perhaps swap the 6 and the 1 around ? Have been trying to find a pair of such numbers for years, the studs are like hens teeth, I've never found any EVER!!! Whether the leather was part of the collar contained inside the collar itself to give it shape seems feasible.... Either way, very nice thanks for sharing it with us!!!!!!!
