A nice photograph of a Corporal (Obergefreiter) from the Intelligence service with a Panzer Badge (Panzerkampfabzeichen) and a Frozen Meat Medal ribbon bar. Photostudio Begsteiger in Linz (Austria).

    Eastern front medal...

The ribbon, in B&W photos, resembles an American bronze star. It is, in fact, for service on the Eastern Front, or Russian front. So called because bodies of frozen corpses were “staged” along the trail for dramatic effect.

    Hi @Doc,

The term "Frozen Meat Medal" or the "Order of the Frozen Flesh" (German: Gefrierfleischorden) was used for the Eastern Front Medal by Heer, Luftwaffe and Waffen-SS personnel to whom it was awarded.

Thanks to all of you for the explanation.  Makes sense, but not my area....So, I had't seen the term before.
