bigjarofwasps Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 (edited) Saw an operational service medal on TV a short while ago. Curious as to why the chaps regimental number is at the end? Is this common practice for OSM’s? My two named medals GSM & Iraq both have my regimental number first. Edited May 5, 2021 by bigjarofwasps
paul wood Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 The Afghan and Sierra Leone ones I have encountered all commence with service number. wierd. p
peter monahan Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 A mistake in the naming, rectified by adding the serial number last rather than throwing the medal out and starting over? Not sure how likely that is but... ?
Marcon1 Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Doubtful, they would have skimmed the medal and named it again and this time the right way. Don't forget, the medal is made of silver.
Ralph Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 JSP 761, Vers4.0 dated December 2014 standardised the naming convention of U.K. medals to Rank, Intitials, Surname, (post nominals if any) then either RN, RM, Regiment, RAF then Service Number. so it would appear that any medals awarded after 2014 would have the number last. 2
