Claudio Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Dear forumites, My brother just acquired this nice photo in Switzerland. Could you identify this officer by the name of Carl Marnier (Maronier) or other? I couldn't find on the Rangliste 1918 (1926). Many thanks in advance! Cheers, Claudio
Soderbaum Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 (edited) Hi Claudio Those missing in action and those who have died etc where omitted from the "yearly" Ranglisten/dienstalterslisten during the War. Carl Marmier is listed two times in the PVLs, first time on 27.07.1916 in RIR 221 as MIA, second time 17.08.1918 it was recorded that he died on 15.06.1916. His rank is listed as Oblt dL aD and born 30.01.xxxx in Frriedrichsdorf, Taunus. Cannot find Year of birth on ancestry.de. I forgot, also "normal" Ranglisten only included active officers, so those aD and dR are excluded. Gunnar Edited July 19, 2021 by Soderbaum 1

Claudio Posted July 19, 2021 Author Posted July 19, 2021 (edited) Marmier, Isaac Cyprien Friedrich Carl was born on 30th January 1976 in Friedrichsdorf (Hesse) from French Huguenots’ descent (see also the first and middle names of him and his father). On this marriage document of 20th September 1906 he’s registered as Reallehrer Doctor Philosophiae. He’s listed as fallen June 15th 1916 on the Estern front in today’s West Ucraina near Tarnopol, ex Gnilowody (Galizien, KuK Österreich-Ungarn Kaiserreich) today Hwardijśke (obwód tarnopolski). Very interesting ? Edited July 19, 2021 by Claudio
Glenn J Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Chaps, he took his time getting commissioned. He was not promoted to Leutnant der Reserve until 27 January 1905 in the Infanterie- (Leibgarde-) Regiment Nr. 115. He transferred into the Landwehr in 1911 and left Landwehr service on 18 February 1913. Recalled for service in WW1, he was promoted to Oberleutnant der Landwehr a.D. on 18 April 1915 whilst serving at the Kriegsgefangenlager Limburg. Regards Glenn 1
