AJHaslett Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 (edited) Hello all, I've hoped to find an example of this award for some time and recently had some luck in obtaining one locally. I'm hoping a member here has access to the books by Zelosko as I would dearly love to be able to research the recipient. My understanding is that this is a type 7 award. The reverse of the medal is named to: SUMM As it seems an uncommon surname, I'm hoping he's easily researched. If anyone knows a good source for a length of ribbon (preferably original - could be a small length just for display) I'd be grateful to hear your suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers/MfG, Adam Edited February 21, 2023 by AJHaslett 1

Does the reference include a date of the award or any kind of citation? I'm assuming it is a 1914-18 award? MfG, Adam

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see another very late war award.
graham Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Thanks. Interesting that the decorations were both awarded on the same date.
Haku Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Hello Adam I also collect these medals from Baden. Very nice. And I always get the fever when I see one. There is a war master roll entry for Summ George. to be found here under this link :http://www.landesarchiv-bw.de/plink/?f=4-894216-48 Entries are hard to read. Summ was a farmer from Mietersheim Lahr/ Black Forest EK2 24.12.1916 , BsVM ( Badische silberne Verdienst Medal) 15.12.1917 VM Karl Friedrich 08.11.1918 , Wounded Badge ? 31.03.19 30.11.18 promoted to Sergeant. Regards Bernhard
Haku Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Hi Graham, FAR57 is not a Baden unit, but Welker was a Baden compatriot. He lived in Baden Mannheim/Waldhof my hometown. The last time I saw this medal was in 2013 at an auction in Baden. Very nice. It is a long way from Baden to Australia. Regards Bernhard
graham Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Thanks Bernhard. I appreciate the extra information you have shared. I purchased it with his other awards a few years ago from Germany.
